Privacy policy
Last updated 18 August 2026
MainichiJP is a one-person Japanese tutoring service. This page explains exactly what personal data the site collects, who it is shared with, how long it is kept, and how to get it deleted. If anything here is unclear, email mainichijp.daily@gmail.com and I'll answer.
Who is responsible
MainichiJP is run by Aiden, the tutor who teaches the lessons, as a sole trader based in the United States. For any privacy question, or to exercise any of the rights below, the contact point is mainichijp.daily@gmail.com.
Booking, cancellation and refund terms are on the terms page.
What is collected, and why
| What | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | When you join the newsletter | To send the word of the day and learning tips. Consent-based, and you can unsubscribe from any email. |
| Name, email, message | When you use the contact form | To reply to you. |
| Name, email, time zone, booking time, and anything you type into the booking form | When you book a lesson | To schedule and deliver the lesson you booked. |
| Payment details | When you pay for a lesson | To take payment. Card details go straight to Stripe and are never seen or stored by this site. |
| Anonymous usage statistics | Only if you accept analytics cookies | To see which pages are useful. Nothing analytics-related loads until you accept. |
Who it is shared with
No personal data is sold, and none is shared for advertising. It is handled by these processors, each only for the purpose listed:
- Calendly โ scheduling. Receives your name, email and booking details when you book a lesson.
- Stripe โ payment processing. Receives your payment details directly; the site never handles card numbers.
- Formspree โ delivers newsletter sign-ups and contact-form messages to my inbox.
- Google Analytics โ usage statistics. Only loaded if you accept analytics cookies.
- Vercel โ hosting. Processes standard server request logs.
These providers may process data outside your country. Where that applies to visitors in the UK/EEA, transfers rely on the providers' own standard contractual clauses.
Cookies
Two categories, and only two:
- Essential โ always on. This covers the record of your own cookie choice, and your furigana display preference. No toggle, because the site cannot work as intended without them and they are not used to track you.
- Analytics โ off unless you accept. Google Analytics 4. The script is not loaded at all before you accept, so no analytics cookie is set and no request is made in the meantime.
Your choice is remembered for 12 months, after which you'll be asked again. You can change it whenever you like: .
How long it is kept
- Newsletter email addresses โ until you unsubscribe.
- Contact and booking messages โ up to 2 years after our last contact, so I can pick up where we left off.
- Payment records โ as long as tax and accounting rules require, typically 6โ7 years. Held by Stripe.
- Analytics data โ retained by Google for 14 months.
- Your cookie choice โ 365 days.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. You can also withdraw consent for the newsletter or for analytics at any time, without affecting anything that happened before.
Email mainichijp.daily@gmail.com and I'll action it within 30 days. If you are in the UK or EEA and think I've got it wrong, you have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Lessons are sold to adults. If a student is under 16, a parent or guardian should make the booking and is the person I'll correspond with.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, the date at the top of this page changes with it, and the cookie banner reappears if the categories themselves change.
